Black was an exhibition of staged photography by Danish artist Pernille Koldbech Fich, presented at Photon — Festival Photonic Moments, Ljubljana, Slovenia, 13 April – 18 May 2012. The exhibition was curated by Tijana Mišković.
The opening on 13 April 2012 was inaugurated by H.E. Karsten Vagn Nielsen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, and included an artist talk by Pernille Koldbech Fich and a lecture by curator Tijana Mišković on cultural dialogues in art production and curatorial work.
About the exhibition
A variety of women posed in front of the camera, staged in simply furnished, dark spaces, creating a mysterious dialogue within their surroundings. These human characters, their relationships and a series of imagined fictional events formed the basis of Black. Koldbech Fich captured the uncertainty that occurs between strangers — in this case the artist and her subjects — producing a series of photographs that hovered between reality and illusion.
As Beate Cegielska (Galleri Image) wrote of the work: Koldbech Fich possessed a special ability to condense moods, meanings and narrative potential into low-key stories, making the photographs alluring in their quiet and poetic melancholy.
